The focus this week is on ADDITION using
tens and units. Sometimes the children will have to do straight forward
addition and sometimes they will be doing addition with RENAMING, which was
covered last week. The first two
videos are still here for you to have a look at if you want. Watch the new
video and try out some addition. There is also a problem to solve every day.
Just get some paper and a pencil to work them out. Have fun!!

Watch Ms. Molloy's story time video, 'The Things I Love About
School'
–
Like the main character in this book, you have lots of
lovely friends in school. Write a letter to one of your friends from school.
Keep the letter in a safe place and you can give it to your friend when we
return to school! Ask your friend 3 questions about what they've been doing
while keeping safe at home. Remember to use a quesion mark (?) and the 5 W
question words: who, what, when, where, why.
You can draw little pictures and
decorate your letter if you like!

Tens and Units work: Watch the new tens and units video
and have a go. This video shows us how to do adding up sums. Sometimes we
don’t have to do RENAMING and it’s a simple adding sum but sometimes we do
have to do RENAMING. See if you can figure out when it’s a simple adding sum
and when it’s a sum that needs RENAMING so that we can get the answer right.

Trying new things
is fun! Sometimes when we try new things we are surprised by how much we
enjoy them. Can you think of a time when you tried something new and really enjoyed
it? Talk to someone in your house about this time. Ask them to tell you about
a time that they tried something new!
Make
a list of some new things you would like to try.

Problem of the day:
There were 6 birds sitting on a branch. 5 more came
along but then 3 flew away. How many birds were on the branch then?
-
Tens and Units work:
Try some more adding using tens and units. Copy
these sums onto a page and try to figure out the answers. Write the sums the
same way as this and follow the steps you saw on the video! Some sums won’t
need RENAMING but other sums will!

Like the main
character in this book, you have a colourful and interesting classroom!
-
Draw and label a picture of your classroom. Use as many labels as you can.
-
Read the lables aloud to someone at home. Chat with them about the things
that you love in your classroom eg: Golden Time toys, library, art equipment,
maths equipment and games etc.
-
Put these classroom words into alphabetical order: table, book,
pencil, crayon, whiteboard, jigsaw, lego, scissors, glue.

History Work
Become a historian!
If you can, phone a grandparent or an older person. Ask them
about their homes when they were growing up. Think about something you cannot
live without, ask them if they had this object in their house when they were
growing up.
What other things from the past do we still use today that
you think might look different?
Draw a picture of your favourite object from long ago or try
to recreate it using Lego, play-doh or blocks!
