Suggested work June 3rd - 5th

Hi everyone we hope you are all enjoying the beautiful weather. This week we will focus on renaming with subtraction. Have a look at Ms Gallagher's video clip and try to get a bit of practise done. As we are now in the month of June we will try and do lots of outdoor activities so enjoy your outdoor space.
Work starts on Wednesday this week as Monday was a bank holiday and Tuesday was a school holiday. Have a lovely week everyone!

Week –3rd – 5th June 2020  (1st Class)

Literacy
Numeracy

The focus this week is on RENAMING FOR SUBTRACTION using tens and units. Sometimes the children will have to do straight forward subtraction and sometimes they will be doing subtraction with RENAMING. There is also a problem to solve every day. Just get some paper and a pencil to work them out. Have fun!!

        Wednesday

Make, design and write a postcard to a family member or friend
Maybe you could get a stamp and post your postcard to the lucky receiver! If you can't get to a postbox maybe you could hand deliver to a neighbour/friend!
Tricky Word for the week – 'love'
Use your rainbow writing to practice writing the word 'love'
DEAR time – 10 minutes. Can you find the word 'love' in your book today?

Example of how to make and write a postcard:

Problem of the day:
Make a number sentence for this word problem and then find the answer:

12 boys were on a bouncy castle, 7 girls got on and then 3 more boys got on. How many children were on the bouncy castle altogether?

-          Tens and Units work: Watch the new tens and units video and have a go. Here Ms. Gallagher is doing RENAMING FOR TAKE AWAY SUMS. Try this RENAMING where you take a ten from the tens side and change it back into units to make your units side bigger on the top!

For example – Rename 45 for a take away sum:

Now try to rename these numbers for a take away sum. Use paper and a pencil and if you want you can use some little tens and units like raisins or whatever you have at home too.

36       24       57          11           40           52

Thursday
           Readers Theatre:
This is a strategy that combines reading practice and performing. Its goal is to enhance students' reading skills and confidence by having them practice reading with a purpose. Reader's theatre gives students a real reason to read aloud. Choose a book at home, set up a special area/ chair for the child to sit on and give them an audience while they read! Even one listener is enough as long as you give the child lots of praise and encouragement.

Handwriting – Just Handwriting, complete the next one or two available pages, depending on speed of writing.
Remember, posture and pencil grip are really important when completing handwriting: chair in, feet down, back straight, don't frown! Pencil grip: froggy legs.
When you've completed the page(s) use a crayon to highlight your best work. (Self-assessment)

-          Problem of the day:
How many arms and legs do 2 boys, 3 elephants, 1 snake and 2 gjrls have?
(take your time to think about this – do they all have arms and legs? Maybe something only has legs! A picture will help if you’re stuck)

-          Tens and Units work:
Same as yesterday – rename these numbers for a take away sum by borrowing a ten to change back into units and make your units number bigger!

15     30       26         71          83          90

Friday
Read the poem below on your own or with the help of an adult

Complete 10 minutes of Free Writing OR draw a picture to illustrate the poem above

DEAR time – be read to for 10     minutes

-          Problem of the day:
Look at a calendar. How many Tuesdays will there be in October 2020? How many Saturdays will there be? What day of the week will Halloween (October 31st) be?

-          Tens and Units work:
Try these take away sums. Some might be easy sums with a bigger units number on the top. Some might have a smaller units number on the top and then you will have to do RENAMING. Try your best. This rhyme might help: More on the top, no need to stop! (when the units number on the top is bigger)
More on the floor, go next door!(when the units number on the top is smaller – go next door to the tens and borrow a ten)

*DEAR Time means Drop Everything and Read

Art
Have you been enjoying the beautiful weather this week? The summer season brings warm and sunny weather. This week could you draw or paint a picture of summer or maybe you could make a summer collage!

Start with brainstorming what summer looks like. Let’s get started…close your eyes, what pops into your head when you think of summer? Use all your senses to help you! What do you see? What do you hear? What do you smell? What do you taste? What do you touch?

Hints: Birds singing, the smell of flowers blooming, a bumble bee visiting a flower, green leaves on trees, baby birds learning to fly, farmers making hay, baby animals are born, wearing clothes like shorts and a t-shirt, spending more time outdoors than indoors, eating ice-cream…can you think of anything else?

Maybe you have a memory of a time you were on holidays or you went to the beach and played in the sand and dipped your toes in the sea!

PE Options
-           Create an obstacle course at home using objects from home. Think about the different movements you can include, e.g. hopping, climbing through a tunnel, jumping, going backwards, skipping, balancing, etc.
-           Find a space to do some activities , for example 10 jumping jacks, 10 squats, 10lunges, 10 knee highs, 10 heel flicks, 10 twists (repeat x5 with a break in between each session)
-           Go outside to practice your skipping or ball skills (dribbling, kicking, throwing and catching)
-           Set yourself a new goal and practise it for the week, e.g. 10 keepy uppies with a football or hurl, run/cycle a distance in a certain time frame, do a forward or backward roll. Choose a target that’s achievable and measurable. Have fun! - Try some activities at https://www.gonoodle.com
